May Day:Council Workers Deserve Better Welfare…NULGE President Speaks, Congratulates Members

In the spirit of this year’s Workers Day Celebration, the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees NULGE, Ekiti State, Comrade Oluseyi Olatunde has rejoiced with every worker in the state, particularly council workers for the grace to witness another May Day.

Olatunde in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti affirmed that May Day symbolizes the beginning of another year in the labour field and a time to celebrate the contributions of workers to national development.

The NULGE president prayed God to grant Ekiti workers good health and sound mind to continue to discharge their duties effectively and witness many more May Day.

According to him, local government workers are critical stakeholders in the growth and development of any nation, hence their welfare should be paramount.

While appreciating the various efforts of Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Comrade Olatunde pleaded for payment of various outstanding arrears of promotion, salaries and deductions to cooperative societies at the council level.

The NULGE President noted that such plea if attended to would boost the morale of the council workers, thus enhancing their services to the nation.

He also called for full implementation of the Local Government Autonomy as approved by the Federal Government saying such development would address a lot of issues affecting the productivity of councils.

He added that local government autonomy would enable the third tier of government meet up with its primary responsibility of bringing governance closer to people at the grassroots.
