Uphold Rules Of Law in Propagating Cultural Heritage – Legal Practitioner Charges Traditionalists

Traditionalists in the country have been advised to respect the tenet of the rule of law in their quest to preserve African’s culture and traditions.

This is the submission of a legal Practitioner, Barr. Micheal Ogunsakin while speaking during the end of a 3-day convention organized by a traditional group under the aegis of “Ogbon Awon Agba “(OAA) held in Ado Ekiti.

Ogunsakion added that there are stipulated rules and regulations guiding the operation of all establishments in the country which does not exclude social cultural organization for the adherence on effective performance.

The lawyer who commended the Organization for taking into cognizance proper registration of the association in tandem with government approval , described the members as responsible citizens who have respect for the constitution of the country , he said “ in any organization, there must be law , where there is no law ,there is no sin .

Ogunsakin who is the Legal adviser of the OAA prayed for the development of the socio-cultural body and enjoined the members on good conduct for them to be cynosure of culture and tradition in the society.

He said “ensure good conduct that will make the body proud. Nigeria Bar Association {NBA} is a legal Association that always follow protocol, anybody can be trapped by law, for any organization/ association to be well established , it must ensure registration with Corporate Affairs Organization(CAC) so that any challenges could be legally tackled.

‘Before the advent of white medicine ,there had been traditional curative medicine for any disease, now for instance, in this pandemic era, people have been curious about traditional medicine as remedy , but to be relevant, proper conduct must be maintained “

Among the steps he listed for this kind of socio cultural body to be relevant and achieve the objectives are proper registration with government body-CAC and familiarization with the Ministry of Culture and tourism

‘ Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism must be aware of your activities and also if for any reason, there is challenge, don’t employ violence, there is fundamental human right “

The OAA National President, Dr Kazeem Adepoju said membership of the traditional group spreads across the globe with the aim of protecting Yoruba culture ,tradition and heritage. He commended the OAA leadership at different chapters both home and abroad on the proactiveness said to be behind the success of the organization. Adepoju added that this year marks the 8th convention of OAA.

He stated,”this association is a big one established to protect and uphold Yoruba Heritage, we are out to remove the ignorance and bad notion that people have about Yoruba tradition and culture through educative, informative programme and proper enlightenment.

“its not about cultism, voodoo, but progress of Yoruba culture /tradition ,the group advocates the promotion of Yoruba culture and tradition to achieve development that would further elevate norms, values of the race and prevent the culture from going into oblivion”

OAA which called on government to pay more attention to traditional medicine, lamented the inability of the Federal government in using traditional approach to tackle insecurity ravaging the country, the President stressed the readiness of the association in combatting the menace for everlasting solution .

The traditionalists charged parents on propagating Yoruba language and culture to their children . The OAA also enjoined governments at all levels and meaningful stakeholders on adequate collaboration to achieve the objective and solve menace of insecurity in the country .

The three-day event, well attended by members of the association across the world featured activities like spiritual cleansing , induction of new members, award presentation, election of new executive members as well as prayers for the well being of Yoruba race and Nigeria in general.
