The Asaya of Isaya community, in Ekiti East local government, Oba Mathew Ajayi has again cried out to the local and state governments to prevail on the Benin Electricity Distribution Company BEDC to restore power to all the communities under the council.
Oba Ajayi during an interview with newsmen on Ado Ekiti, claimed that the council which consist of eleven communities have been in total darkness for over seven years.
This according to the monarch has subjected people of the communities to untold hardship and economic meltdown.
Oba Ajayi explained that the blackout had crippled commercial activities in the areas adding that most youths and artisans have migrated to cities and other communities where they could easily get electricity for their social and commercial ventures.
He said” we have been living in darkness for seven years now and nothing has been done by successive governments to bail us out. We have been depending on generator which has done more harm to us than good.
“For instance there was a time when the smoke from a generator killed members of a family in the area.
“We have engaged the officials of BEDC times without number, there was a time they requested for seven million naira to connect us with Kogi State, we contributed and paid the money but nothing was done.
“This is why we are appealing passionately to Governor Kayode Fayemi and every other authority that may be concerned to please bail us out of this terrible situation.
“Electricity is one of the basic necessity of life, when there is power their will be progress and business will thrive.
The monarch however commended Governor Kayode Fayemi for the construction of Omuo to Ode road which he said was a death trap and promised the support of people of the community for his government.
