The police on Wednesday arraigned a 23-year-old man, Ebenezer Olaitan , before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged membership of confraternity.
The defendant of no fixed address is standing trial on a charge of membership of confraternity.
The prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 10 at about 8:00 a.m in Ikole-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant was arrested by the police and he confessed to be a member of unlawful confraternity society.
Akinwale said the offence contravened Section 64 (a) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor said the case file was duplicated and forwarded to office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The plea of the defendant was not taken as his counsel, Mr Timi Omotosho, applied for his bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefumike Anoma, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until July 9 for mention.
