EKITI NSCDC INTERCEPTS ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS FROM NORTH.
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command has intercepted a bus which sneaked into Ekiti with some traders from Sokoto State under the pretense that they are traders from Ilorin who came to Ekiti to sell Onions.
The suspects were arrested at Afao Ekiti having traveled through bush paths and abandoned roads from Ilorin to Ado Ekiti at night.
However, they ran out of luck when the Intelligent Unit of the NSCDC traced them from Igbemo- Ekiti to Afao Ekiti where the Commuter bus wanted to alight them.
In a statement, the NSCDC public Relations officer, Tolulope Afolabi, confirmed that the driver of the commercial bus was able to escape after sighting the Armed Squad of the Command but the suspects were rounded up and detained at the Headquarters of the Command in Ado-Ekiti.
Commenting on the arrest, the State Commandant Mr. Solomon Iyamu frowned at the rate at which people were moving into the State from other States of the federation towing bush paths and dangerous routes despite the border closure.
Iyamu noted that all preliminary investigation showed that all the suspects were from Sokoto State while few of them have been staying in Ilorin before moving to Ekiti State.
The suspects Tukur Abubakar 27,Jamilu Aliyu 23,Kabiru Abdulahi 19, Abdulsalam Bello 21, Aliyu Salisu 20 and Isyaku Haliru were all from Sokoto State and they have been handed over to Ekiti State Government for necessary action.
The Commandant later appealed to the people of the Country to learn how to stay safe during this period or stay away from Ekiti State as the State Command is battle ready to arrest and prosecute anyone found in the State illegally especially this period of lockdown.
