MONARCH CALLS ON NIGERIAN SCIENTISTS’ TO RESEARCH INTO CURE FOR CORONAVIRUS

The Chairman of Ekiti Council of Traditional rulers ,the Alawe of Ilawe Ilawe Ekiti,HRM,Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, AFUTADE 1 has called on the Federal Government to direct all professors of immunology and that of virology in Nigeria to harness their researches in finding a cure or develop a vaccine for corona virus that is currently ravaging the world.

The Ekiti State traditional council Chairman made the appeal shortly after distributing palliatives recently to the vulnerables in his domain. Oba Alabi commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the bold steps he had taken so far in fighting the scourge in the country, particularly for setting up a taskforce which has been up to the task adding that it would be great if Nigerian scientists could come out with a home -made cure or vaccine for Covid-19.

Oba Alabi further suggested that Nigeria could Immitate Madagascar where the locals developed syrup that had worked for the people of that country stressing that some Nigerians who are specialists in herbal medicine should be told to come out with a home made solution to the scourge. It was his belief that there could be a breakthrough if those given the assignment are properly monitored and motivated.

The Monarch praised Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State for showing purposeful leadership in the fight against the coronavirus menace in Ekiti State.
He also enjoined Ekiti people and other Nigerians living in the state to adhere strictly to the sanitation guidelines provided by the government in order to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

Oba Alabi praised and appreciated the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, for his efforts at mitigating the pandemic throughout Nigeria. He expressed the hope that the fumigation equipment donated by the Ooni to the States in Nigeria will be useful for all times , even at the post coronavirus era. “Ooni Ogunwusi is a pacesetter, a unique and quintessential monarch who is a pride not only to Yoruba land but Nigeria as a whole “; Oba Alabi declared.
