The remembrance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ during this Easter period is a good time for sober reflection among Christians and indeed, the entire Ekiti people.
The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye made this observation in his Easter message signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Akogun Tai Oguntayo and made available to the press.
Afuye who rejoiced with all Christians in Ekiti for witnessing yet another Easter festival, however noted that this year’s celebration came at a critical period “when the entire nation and the world are passing through COVID-19 pandemic”. This alone, he said calls for sober reflection as “we all stay at home during this period.”
He urged Ekiti Kete to be their brothers’ keepers during this Easter festivity by remembering the poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged people in their midst. “Doing this is following the commandments of God to love our neighbour according to ourselves”
Afuye who disclosed that it was the love of Ekiti people that made him and his colleagues to pledge the donation of their April salary to providing succour for Ekiti people in this time of pandemic, assured the people that the Assembly would do everything to compliment the governor’s effort in alleviating the suffering of the masses.
He therefore enjoined the entire Ekiti people to stay safe wherever they are during this critical period and also share whatever God provides for them with the needy in their surroundings as government alone cannot meet the vast yearnings of the entire populace.
