The Head of Operation, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Olusegun Afolayan has distributed Relief Materials to 2019 Flood victims in Ekiti State.

The ceremony took place at the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency ,SEMA, office in Ado-Ekiti.

Mr Afolayan noted that the materials were brought by the Federal Government through NEMA after a joint assessment with the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA.

The NEMA boss who described flood as an extensive recurring risk, said that there’s need for early warning coupled with early action mechanisms and leadership commitment at the Local government level.

He urged all Stakeholders to join hands with NEMA to work assiduously towards disaster risk reduction and improving community resilience.

The State Coordinator, SEMA, Mr Jide Borode appreciated the Federal Government through NEMA for supporting the State Government by donating relief materials towards alleviating the suffering of the 2019 flood affected victims .

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, appealed to Ekiti Residents to imbibe the culture of environmental preservation such as tree planting, erosion control, cleaning and clearing of drainages that would help to reduce future occurrence.

The Deputy Governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Tade Aluko appreciated the kind gesture of NEMA ,soliciting for continued support of the Agency in eradicating poverty from the state.

He also assured the people of Ekiti State that prompt intervention would be given to victims of any hazard that may occur through natural disaster.
