SICKLE CELL ANEMIA : MEDICAL PRACTITIONER CHARGES INTENDING COUPLES ON GENOTYPE TEST.
Intending couples have been advised to always go for a genotype test before marriage to avoid sickle cells anemia which has become rampant in the society.
A Medical Practitioner at the Ekiti State Ministry of Health, Dr. Olasunkanmi Alabi gave the advice during a Lecture on Sickle cells Anemia in honour of the Late Female Lawyers, FIDA in Ekiti, Mrs Seyi Ojo at the Bar Centre, in Ado-Ekiti .
Dr. Alabi called on parents to educate their children on the risk involved in married AS and As and not to put God into test by saying God will heal the anemia.
She identified shortage in Red blood cell as the main cause of Sickle cells anemia which mostly leads to fatigue, organs damage, lose in vision in the carriers.
The guest lecturer thereafter listed some precautionary measures for the carriers, which includes, taking of folic acid regularly, taking of plenty water, eating healthy and avoiding stress.
She also advised sickle cells carriers to always visit hospital for check up on a regular basis, adding that they should also avoid high temperature.
The FIDA Country Vice President ,Mrs Rhoda Moore who described the late FIDA chairperson as a dogged leader who always championed the cause of girl-child, women in Gender Based Violence in the society.
She used the medium to call on other female lawyers to carry on with the zeal she had in fighting for girls and women in the state and Nigeria at large.
