People of Ekiti state seems to have lost confidence in the value of local government administration.
This perhaps may have been responsible for the poor turn out during the local government election.
In all the polling units visited across some parts of the state, election materials arrived early but there were no people on ground to cast their votes as at 9:30am unlike what it used to be in the past.
Only few people were sighted at the polling units, precisely party agents and loyalists.
The electoral guidelines and regulations were shunned by members of the public as some of them opened their shops for businesses while vehicles and motorcycles moved freely until the police started barricading some of the routes.
Trading was going on unhindered at the Bisi market and other local markets within Ado Ekiti.
In rural communities, one could hardly believe that a serious process was going on as people were going about their normal businesses.
In an interview some residents said the poor turn out was because the poll was not competitive as only APC was the party that went round and campaign.
