Christians, especially those occupying positions of authority have been charged to always use their influence and positions to uplift the work of gospel for they will one day be accountable to God.

The President, Nigerian Baptist Convention and President Christian Association of Nigeria Rev. Dr. Samson Olasupo Ayokunle gave the charge at a special
service commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Ekiti Baptist Conference held at the First Baptist Church Igede Ekiti.

Represented by Vice president Ministarial Nigerian Baptist Convention Rev Dickson Madowe, Dr Ayokunle noted that “we are all stewards of God and the handlers of legacies our fathers of faith left behind, we can not afford to let them down.

Earlier, in his anniversary lecture the guest lecturer who is the fomer President Federal Republic of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo said Baptist had Godly heritage left behind for the Baptist Christians of this generation, but worried that the love for those good legacies of sound Bible study, teachings, fervent prayers in faith and evangelism was gradually declining.

Chief Obasanjo who went down memory lane said the contributions of Baptist heroes to social and national development could not be over emphasised.

“They made an indelible impacts in the entire Country Obasanjo said.

Diginitries from all walks of life graced the occasion including the deputy governor of Ekiti State Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi who represented the Ekiti State governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti Oba Adejimi Adu, representative of the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, the Owa of Odo Ayedun, Oba Solomon Ajigbotoluwa 1, Chief Kayode Ogunleye,and the Royal host Oba James Aladesuru the Onigede of Igede Ekiti

The programme will come to a close with re-union, award giving and anniversary thanksgiving at the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, Okeyimi Ado Ekiti on Saturday.
