The Ekiti State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building, statutory backed by Act Cap B13, LFN, 2004 has elected a new executive to pilot the affairs of the Institute.
The members of the new executive were sworn in at the 2019 edition of the Builders Conference and Annual General Meeting held at the Pope John Paul Pastoral Center, along Ikere road with an impressive roll call which included the 3rd National Vice President, Builder Bimbo Kolade, former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Professor(Builder) Kolapo Olusola, Dean, School of Management Technology, Professor (Builder) AF Lawal
The new exco headed by Dr. Mrs (Builder) Victoria Akinola and Vice President, Builder Kolawole Ojo were sworn in at the Annual General Meeting after unanimous decision by members and no contenders.
Earlier the Builders Conference with the theme, “Quest for Professionalism on the Building Industry: Causes and Effect on Construction Project” attracted participants and professionals from the building industry, the academia and various stakeholders in the construction industry.
In her address of welcome, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr. Mrs (Builder) Victoria Akinola said that the 2019 Builders Conference tagged Ekiti Kete 2019 which coincided with the 20th inauguration of the Institute in Ekiti, focused on the need to ensure professionalism in the building industry and how to reduce the negative effects of quackery on the profession.
Dr. Mrs (Builder) Victoria Akinola who said that the building construction operation was a complex and intricate operation, said that building elements needed to certify other requirements on terms of design and coordination of stakeholders in the building process.
She said it was also important for members the join the registered body to be able to ensure professionalism and elimate the notion that quacks were taking over.
The resource persons at the event took the participants through series of lectures
The former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Professor (Builder) Kolapo Olusola Eleka who delivered a lecture, explained the intricate essence of the building profession, professionalism and certification in the industry, why it was important to be a certified builder and the various roles builders played in ensuring standard was maintained on construction sites while calling for strict measures against quacks and under qualified Builders.
The Dean, School of Management Technology, FUTA, Professor(Builder) A.F Lawal also lectured the participants on the nitty gritty of the building profession and the essence of certification in the building industry.
Speaker at the lecture who included the 3rd National Vice President, Builder Bimbo Kolade, encouraged the young participants at the conference to embrace trainings and offer free services which offered a platform to learn on the job.
He decried the incursion of quacks into the system saying that the institute would deal decisively with erring builders without certification.
There was also a feedback session where participants asked questions regarding the building industry and the essence of professional development and training.
The Vice President of The Ekiti State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building, Builder Kolawole Ojo speaking with newsmen on behalf of the new executive said that they would ensure a progression of the body for maximum output adding that they would liaise with relevant stakeholders to ensure strict adherence to standards and professionalism.
