The Chief Whip of the State of Osun House of Assembly, Mr Tunde Olatunji says the dearth or motivation and good mentoring for young people has continued to promote delinquencies among youth in Nigeria.

Mr Olatunji said, his choice to venture into voluntary teaching of mathematics and civic education in public middle school in his constituency and the state capital is to be part of providing the social re-engineering and reorientation oftheir the Nigerian Youth.

He spoke at the unveiling of the initiative tagged, “Tunde Goes to Teach” programme at Anglican Middle School, Edun-abon,i Ife-North Local Government, Area of the state.

According to the lawmaker, the desire to take up the teaching job was aimed at complimenting teachers’ efforts and use his status to further stimulate the students in the two “all important subjects”.

Mr Olatunji who is an APC lawmaker represening Ife-North Constituency, said the desire to teach mathematics was aimed at making the subject more interesting and attractive to students.

“This voluntary teaching is an effort on my part to drive a quality and functional education system and also to impact knowledge and skillsI that will make the students to be useful to the society.

” My choice of mathematics and civic education is deliberate.

” My desire in Mathematics is predicated on my drive to stimulate the interest of young ones in this all important subject often tagged as difficult.

“While the Civic Education to me will impact the sense of National duty, obligation, patriotism, respect for human rights and ethics, which are unarguably sine qua non to national renaissance and development of any state” Olatunji said.

The lawmaker said his other educational programmes to assist many young talents in academics and sports accross Osun state in the last four years had started yielding result .

Mr Olatunji, who later took the students mathematics, urged them to take the subject serious, adding no matter their future course of study, it would required the subject.

Performing the flag off, the State Head of Service, who also dobble as the Chairman, State Education Steering Committee, Dr Oyebade Olowogboyega, lauded the initiative and pledged his personal support for the exercise which he described as morale booster to teachers and students.

Dr Olowogboyega who said the presence of the lawmaker in the classrooms, teaching mathematics and civic education would have a long lasting impact in the lives of the students.

Similarly, Mrs Arinola Oladimeji, the Director of Osun Middle Schools, described the lawmaker teaching initiative as a rare gesture and assured that SUBEB would be part of the initiative.

The Principal of the school, Mr Oladele Olaniyi, appreciated the lawmaker for his desire to motivate the students to attain greater height in life.
