A Lagos based  industrialist and Atayero of Aramoko- Ekiti , Olusegun Aderemi has  called on senior citizens in Ekiti to intervene in the raging crisis rocking the State Council of Obas.

Specifically,Aderemi Chairman \ COE Autofit and Energy appealed to the legal icon and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to use his influence to mediate in the crisis .

The appointment of Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti,Oba Adebanji  Alabi as the new chair of Ekiti Traditional Council by Governor Kayode Fayemi had generated ripples in the state as the Pelepelu monarchs protested the appropriateness  of the headship .

The aggrieved monarchs , through the Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti,Oba Samuel Adewole had instituted suit to challenge the governor’s action .

Aderemi, however  expressed reservations about the style adopted by the aggrieved monarchs, stressing the traditional institution which is the peak of alternative dispute resolution should not have considered the court as the best option in the matter.

He also condemned some monarchs for allegedly escalating the matter in the media .

“Only the governor or president with executive power possesses an abstract of power enjoyed by traditional rulers in the past. The governor exercises his power under the watchful eyes of principle of checks and balances owing to the separation of power that compartmentalizes power. In matters that are not subject to these principle,he uses his discretion with fairness, care and caution. ” Aderemi said .

The 16 most prominent monarchs called ‘Pelupelu  Obas’ described the action taken by Fayemi picking someone outside the  16 Obas called ‘Alademerindinlogin’ to occupy the exalted seat ,  as a flagrant violation of the Ekiti State Chieftaincy Law.

Joined in the suit registration number HAD/76/2019 are; Governor Kayode Fayemi(1st defendant), Attorney General of Ekiti State, Wale Fapohunda (2nd) and Oba Adebanji Alabi(3rd).

“The  traditional institution is very sacred and “we must be careful so that it may not cause anarchy in the fountain of knowledge.

“The Pelupelu Obas as the custodian of alternative dispute resolution ought not to be fighting publicly not to talk of dragging themselves to court.

” My advice to the monarchs is to stop further action, especially media interviews that could inflame passion and go back home and resolve their differences behind closed door.

” We must avoid politics when it comes to the issues of traditional rulers. The monarchs must be seen to be non partisan because of the sacredness of their position in the society.

“This matter must not be allowed to degenerate further, this is why I am appealing to prominent Ekiti sons, especially Chief Afe Babalola to mediate in the matter.”
