Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti Dr Dayo Oladebeye has reiterated his commitment to adopt all necessary strategies to raise the bar of the institution into a world class standard.

He stated this during a news conference to herald the 17th combined convocation of the institution held at the campus premises Ado Ekiti.

The rector who highlighted some of his achievements since assumption of office noted that his administration had more innovations in pipeline to enhance teaching, research and learning towards building moral and academic excellence.

Dr Oladebeye explained that despite daunting challenges, his administration had been able to restructure some IGR units of the institution to boost the polytechnic Internally Generated Revenue while some of the outstanding allowances and cooperative dues owed staff by previous administration have been settled.

The achievements also include stability in the academic environment and industrial relation, sponsorship of staff to learned conferences, seminars and workshop within and outside the country, ongoing construction of state-of-Art offices and laboratory to temporarily accommodate the Health Centre, sound Financial management of the meagre resources of the institution, purchase of vehicles for principal officers, promotion of staff as and when due, provision of necessary working facilities among others.

He however sought for the support of well meaning Nigerians and government towards the construction of the road leading to the institution which is in a deplorable condition and building of a befitting auditorium.

Dr Oladebeye noted that the main academic programmes of the polytechnic are enjoying accreditation from regulatory bodies adding that a fifty man committee contigent of the National Board for Technical Education were already rounding off an accreditation /Inspection visitation for some other programmes such as, ND mass communication, ND Taxation, HND Purchase and Supply Art and Design, Civil Engineering among others.

He highlighted the challenges facing the institution to include Ageing Physical Infrastructures, Paucity of funds inadequate befitting Hostel buildings, poor condition of vehicle, poor sport complex, Laboratory and workshop equipment to mention but a few.

According to him the convocation will cover backlog of ND and HND products of five academic sessions between 2013 and 2018 numbering about 17,000 graduants making an average of about 3,400 per session.

The rector noted that the programme would feature the conferment of Honourary Fellowship awards of the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti on some distinguished and eminent Nigerians.

The award receipents are Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, former Governor of Ebonyi state Dr Sam Egwu, business mougles such as Otunba Demi Ogunleye and Dr PO Anekwe.

Other activities lined up for the programme include facility tour, Exhibition, and convocation lecture with the theme, Exploring Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Mechatronics World: The Place of Polytechnics in Entrepreneurial Education Development in Nigeria to be delivered by Professor SB Adeyanju.
