The Trade Union Congress, TUC, Ekiti State Council has commended the Governor Kayode Fayemi led administration for the payment of pension and gratuity to retired workers.

In a statement by the State Chairman of the Union, Mr. Sola Adigun, the TUC described the release of the fund to clear part of the entitlements of the retirees as another demonstration of the governor’s commitment to workers welfare.

Mr. Adigun noted that the development was key in the government’s fight against poverty as it would enable many hopeless retired workers to engage in meaningful economic activities.

He said some of the elderly people had workable business ideas, but could not implement such in the face of obvious paucity of fund to do so.

The TUC Chairman stressed that if government at all levels could be consistent with such policy, it would restore the hope of public servants, that their youthful age was never a waste, while it would also reduce corruption among workers.

Mr. Adigun, however, appealed to the Governor, who he described as a promise keeper to fulfill his promise by starting the payment of the arrears of salary being owed workers in the state.
