The Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, TUC Ekiti State Council, Comrade Olusola Adigun has been conferred with an honorary by the one of the oldest Cooperative Societies in Nigeria, Ifetayo CMS, Ado Ekiti.
The 60 years old society hinged Adigun’s consideration for such honour on his over 2 decades unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers who formed the bulk of membership of the society.
According to Ifetayo CMS,”Mr Olusola Adigun has not only demonstrated honest commitment to a better condition and freedom of association for workers, for which he had been vilified, he has also consistently led the path of economic empowerment for workers as evidenced in the various schemes he has introduced and executed in ASUSS”.
Accepting the award of honour, Comrade Adigun appreciated the leadership of the group for taken note and referencing his little “but genuine contributions to imbuing a paradigm shift in Union advocacy, not only as fighting bodies ,but bodies with pragmatic and sustainable economic plan for workers.”
Comrade Adigun also commended the founding father’s and succeeding generations of Ifetayo CMS Ado Ekiti for their transparent conduct, discipline and tenacity of purpose that has sustained the society in the 60 years which preceded Nigeria’s independence.
The TUC Chairman urged workers who are yet to join cooperative society to embrace the age long practise, while he appealed to governments to support cooperative societies with refundable capital as measure to increase their lending capacity, invariably increasing citizens’ commercial engagement.
He noted that considering the lending rate of cooperative societies and the nature of their operations, they offer a more serviceable facility, which would not be a burden, particularly to the middle class entrepreneurs.
