The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC and the Trade Union Congress TUC Ekiti state Chapter has described as untrue and malicious the news which went round recently that some of the immediate past leadership of the unions were under probe for allegation of misappropriation of public fund by the state government.

The unions in a joint statement in Ado Ekiti, claimed that none of their leaders had been indicted by the present Government describing the allegations as a figment of the immigration of the source.

According to the labour leaders, issues raised in the allegation are baseless and unfounded which ordinarily are meant to be addressed through the internal mechanism of labour.

They explained that the leadership of labour had wanted to ignore what it called social media ranting but it became necessary to react due to the attention such had generated in the more accountable traditional media.

“while we recognise government powers under the civil service rules to investigate allegations against its workers in compliance with the rules and global best practices, we condemn in totality the media trial of public servants in connection with matters that should exclusively be statutory internal procedure”.

“we commend the incumbent state government for its sense of diligence and responsibility to its statutory obligations including, but not limited to workers’ welfare, we want to pledge our unalloyed support and workers’ commitment to its success”.

The chairmen however cautioned labour leaders against divisive tendencies but remain United as one, so as to achieve the primary objective of fighting for the demands of members with a formidable force.
