FG LAUNCHES SCHOOL FEEDING IN EKITI.

About eighty thousand pupils in 956 primary schools are to be fed with various meals under the Federal Government National Home Grown School Feeding programme in Ekiti State. 

Also about two thousand food vendors are to be engaged by government to provide such meals across the state

Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo who stated this in Ado Ekiti during the flag off of the School Feeding programme in Ekiti state said over five billion Naira is to be spent on the programme annually.

The Vice President who said the programme was one of the components of social investment programme of the Federal Government said Ekiti was the thirty first state to benefit from the scheme.

Professor Osinbajo told the gathering that the scheme had since improved school enrollments with the pupils being fed with nourished meals once per day.

He announced that over 9million children have so far benefited from the scheme stressing that government would continue to prioritize the welfare of Nigerian children to make them more responsible.

Earlier the special adviser to the president on social investment Mrs Mariam Uwais said government had put in place measures to ensure that the meals met required standard.

In a remark, Governor Kayode Fayemi appreciated the Federal Government for extending the scheme to Ekiti state and promised to ensure its sustainability.
